What to see on Île Grande
Île Grande is part of the commune of Pleumeur-Bodou, along with Landrellec. Connected to the mainland by a bridge since 1891, the island covers 200 hectares and is home to around 800 permanent residents. The GR34 coastal path circles the island in 7 km — allow 2h30 with stops. At the highest point stands a 9-metre megalithic tomb. By the sea, the LPO bird sanctuary cares for injured and oil-covered seabirds and opens its museum to visitors. Next door, the ruins of the Castel Erek granite quarry tell the island’s industrial history. Toul Gwen and Pors Gelen offer white sand beaches sheltered from the prevailing winds. The harbour at Saint-Sauveur, Wednesday morning market, artists’ workshops and sweeping views of the Sept-Îles archipelago complete the picture.
